I Will —

When you speak your heart
your words enfold me
when your arms cannot,
and I give them new life in poetry
that I send back to you,

But Darlin’ this I pledge—

When you hold me in your arms
I will resist the urge
to write the things you say;
to capture all your words
in ink on paper.

But I will —

draw lists of love across your skin
with my fingertips,

and paint a book of passion
with my tongue across your lips.

When we make love I promise
I won’t ask for you to stop
so I can write down
all your spoken thoughts
to keep for later.

But I will—

write passages of poetry
on your body with my breath

and print tomes of desire,
my skin the printing press.

I assure you I won’t interrupt
to write down what you say
but Darlin’ feel my touch
upon you where you lay
no pen, no paper —

I’ll write you with love.
