Prairie Moon

Love rides
On the wings of a bird
Soaring above the clouds,
Bathed in the afternoon sun
And my heart
Flies with it.

It glides
Above a meandering river
That curls and snakes
Through autumn’s fields—
A mirror of the miles
That stretch between us
—And it rests
In the whisper
Of a Prairie moon

And there it sleeps
Within the circle
Of my heart
