Whisper Dreams

Lay your whispers softly on my pillow
and I will find them there
when the moon winks behind bare branches
while reaching for snowflakes
with its tongue.

Your words will wrap around me
like the scent that lingers after you're gone
curling through my hair
where your fingers once played,
tracing breath-light lines along my neck
following the footprints of your kisses.

Lay your whispers on my pillow
and I will hold them close
against the threat of winter's chill
that lurks like frosty fingers
'round my ears

And I'll take comfort in your presence
when the night gets dark,
when the wind begins to howl
through the cracks in my defences
and the shadows on my wall
start playing pantomime to taunt me.

Whisper in the distance
where the sky meets the horizon
and leave your smile upon the breeze
that drifts in my direction through the night
and pollinates my dreams
