Waiting
Lying in the dark
I await the day.
Not just any day.
The day the world will cease to turn
as my eyes rivet with yours.
The day no sound will be heard
beyond the beating of two hearts as one.
The day my breath will stop in my throat
at the touch of your hand against my skin,
and the air will spark like lightening
at the touch of your lips on mine,
as I melt.
With every beat of my heart,
I await the day.
Anticipating the soft warmth of your arms
that will lift me beyond the stars;
the touch of your body against mine,
that will build a fire to rival the molten earth
to burn within the depths of my soul
and send me skyward like fireworks
painting the darkness with dizzying splendour
as I fly.
As a child awaiting Christmas
I await the day,
But it will come and go in a breath.
As the firefly lights up the night
and then returns to the dark,
it will seem I merely blink
and you will have come and gone.
Then once again,
lying in the dark
I will await the day.
But you are worth the wait.
