Velvet Night

Tonight when skies of velvet
stretch as far as eyes can see,
sprinkled with the sparks
from Lovers’ hearts;
when Auroras dancing circles
‘round the moon
catch our hands
and whisk us off into the night,

Come with me;
take the night sky by the corners
and fly,
sailing through the universe
on a sweetened pre-rain breeze,
then soar across the sunrise
like the shadow
of  morning dew.

Hide with me,
in the caverns by the sea,
playing barefoot in the surf
as the salty breeze lays kisses
upon my upturned lips
just before they melt
against your own.

Take me with you
into the magic of our dreams
where stars can be collected
like seashells
and we can ride the waves
together
adrift between
the first still strike of midnight,
and the last.
