Until Then
If you miss me,
Look to the sky in the night;
I will be swinging from star to star
Singing that song
That defines us more than all the others
Then when the sun chases the moon away
Leaving a fog that blends the trees
Into the half-white air
Like a muted water-colour painting,
And I lose my grip on fantasy,
I’ll tiptoe along bare branches
With my arms above my head
Like the dancer in the box
But I will never forget you,
Because your name reverberates
On the blood that courses through my veins
And the sound is picked up by the wind,
Dripped like sugar-water
To mix with the morning dew
And trickles onto my tongue
To quench my thirst
And when the time is right
I will sail downriver on a paper boat
To where you wait for me
Beneath a mossy tree
In a black and white photograph
