Truly, I Knew
Once,
you lived in my dreams,
fading in and out of time,
lingering just on the edge of now
in the misty world of someday,
and somewhere.
I knew you then,
I felt you, just out of reach
and in the stillness of a dream
I heard your voice whisper to my heart
and I waited,
for I Loved you then,
though I never knew if your path
would ever cross my own.
But one day
I recognized your heart
by the way it fit next to mine
when, in the blink of an eye,
we fell into step
on the edge of a mountain
where forever nestles against the shore,
and we washed our wishes in the sea
hanging them like feathers
around each other's necks
as the angels danced
And I could stop waiting.
