I Need To Tell You

I need to tell you something today
because I might have forgotten 
to say it yesterday;

I might not have whispered the words,
traced them on your face
with my fingertips
or let them linger in the air
between your eyes and mine
until they swelled to full bloom
and landed like a kiss on your lips.

I might not have sighed it into your dreams
in the soft glow of the early dawn
and let these words paint themselves
onto the walls of your heart
but I feel it in my heart
and I need to let each beat reverberate
against the palm of your hand
every syllable spoken from the depths of my soul

I need to tell you something today
because I might have forgotten 
to tell you  yesterday,
and I might not remember 
to say it tomorrow ...
just like the sun might forget to rise,
 the stars might not remember 
to wink in the night
and you might not know 
what it is I want to say
