Tell Me

Tell me what you think of
When you lay awake at night
With your arm wrapped around
An empty pillow

Do I pass through your mind
On a wisp of moonlight,
Leaving the scent of apricot behind?
Do your lips curl
At a glimpse of a memory
Drifting aimlessly amongst your thoughts
And does your tongue recall
The savoured taste of me
When the clock strikes two?

What do you think of
When sleep won’t come to you
And the moon keeps inching
Across a winter sky

Does the hollow of your back
Miss the shape of me
Pressed against it?
Does the air brush over your neck
Like my breath soft on your skin,
And do the distant sounds of night
Bring my voice to your ears
As I whisper in the darkness
Far away — I Love You

Tell me what you think of
When the evils lurk at night
And every breath leads slowly
Towards a morning without rest

Do I comfort you
Even though I can’t be there,
Does an echo of my kiss
Soothe your woes
From here — where I lay?
Do you feel my arms around you
In the empty of night
And do I keep you warm
When the hours are cold?
