Sweet Nothings
Night creeps in,
An unwelcome but necessary pause,
And you whisper sweet nothings
With the tips of your fingers,
Your words wrap themselves
Like ribbons around my heart,
Feather strokes that linger
And seep under my skin
To flow through my veins;
Poetry spilled
From the ink of a non-poet
And I breathe it in,
Tasting your humble offering
On the tip of my tongue
Like sustenance,
Drawing you to me
Like the laws of physics
To entwine the letters of your name
With mine
Until all is right with the world
And I am at peace
In your
Sweet dreams …
