The Promise
I spoke to the stars last night;
I walked among them,
held Orion’s belt in my hand
as he talked of life and loss
and sweet pleasures,
then I wandered westward
across the universe
I bathed in the blue-white glow
at Merope’s side
and watched the sisters dance
to the subtle sound of harp
played on the wind
I talked to them of love,
and when morning broke
they kissed me
with the warmth of parting friends
and made me promise
to bring you with me
next time
