The Saga Of Two Willing Hearts
There was a great convergence
of hearts from far and wide
and when everyone was gathered
none were left to stand outside.
Love stepped up to the podium
her beauty took all breath away;
her voice was soft and gentle
when she began to say....
“Who will accept my offering
of Love both generous and kind?
Who will open up their hearts
to leave emptiness behind?”
There rang out a million voices
each trying not to be outdone
for the gift of Love was sought after
by each and every one.
Love spread out her hands and smiled
and everywhere a hush began to fall
She said “I have enough for every heart
my gift is free for one and all.”
But before she even finished speaking
a chill began to fill the air
and within that crowded room
a figure stood up from his chair.
Time raised up his head and spoke
in a deep commanding voice
“Who is strong enough to stand my test?
Which of these hearts will make that choice?”
Then Distance stepped out of the crowd,
gloating, with a look of pride
and adding weight upon the challenge
moved to stand at Ol’ Time’s side.
“So who’ll defy our declaration?
Who’s hat into the ring is tossed?
For Time can wither even rocks
and because of Distance much is lost”
Silence spread throughout the room
not a word was spoke, not one;
Love sadly watched the soundless crowd
sure Time and Distance now had won.
But just when those tow’ring figures
could almost taste a victory so thrilling
they heard two voices from the stillness,
both of them said “My heart is willing”
Then Love gave her head a gentle nod
and instilled her precious gift,
for true love withstands the test of time;
not even distance can cause a rift.
So the two looked in each other’s eyes
and shared the gift within each heart
then tasted one last lingering kiss,
as their fingers gently slipped apart.
Then Distance took his powerful grip
and Time cast his curse upon them too,
but each heart took with it Love's true gift
and that's all they need to see them through.
