Reasons
If I need a reason to kiss you,
to run my tongue across your lips,
it would be because the sun rose
or because birds fly.
If there needs to be a reason to hold you,
to feel you pressed against me in embrace,
perhaps the fact that flowers bloom
would be a reason why.
If I must have a reason to want you,
perhaps because the moon shines;
coyotes howl and fishes swim
is what I'd say?
And if there needs to be a reason
why I love you like I do,
it can only be because
my heart beats every day.
