Random Thoughts

Sometimes I wonder —

If we had a lifetime to spend together
would our love stay true,
would we pass the test
or would we fail
to remember the basic facts of nature?

Things like —

when the sun comes up
in the morning,
it rises in your smile;

the most breathtaking sunset
man has ever known
is there upon your face,

and the rushing mountain river
overflowing with spring thaw
courses through my veins
whenever I'm with you.

Then I think,
if I had but a minute
to spend with you instead,
what would I do then?

I would read —

I'd read the volumes of love
written in your eyes;
the libraries of emotion
reflected in your gaze,
passing between us
in the blink of an eye,
and for that minute
I would bask in the timelessness
of us.
