He's Not a Poet

He doesn’t write her poetry
in sentimental verse and rhyme,
he’s not a poet

 He just gives her words,
he finds them in his heart
and lays them at her feet
expressing thoughts
that he’s sure barely touch the surface
and he’s surprised to find she saves them
in tiny boxes tied with silk
labelled poems from
my Love.

He doesn’t write her love songs
to softly croon into her ear,
 he’s not a writer

He just finds words
slipping off his tongue with ease
whispered to the music
played in the harmony of hearts
and when she sings them back to him
they seem too beautiful
to be his.

He’s not a poet
he just gives her words
laced with the poetry
of Love.
