Shades of Me

Lately my words have been brushed
with shades of blue —
sapphire and ultramarine
smoothed over letters
woven with threads of cerulean
highlighted with cornflower,
along the curved edges
of b's and d's and p's
with soft hints of periwinkle
dusting the slanted edges
where the sun shines.

But you have a way
of changing my hues,
infusing a soft touch of mint on the contours of my f's and r's dotting my i's with lilac and brightening my n's with sunshine while tinting my L's with garnet, my v's with fuchsia and filling my o's and e's with tones of tea rose and cherry blossom
You are the pigment pulsing through the heart of my syllables and in return I will be the palette for your thoughts april 2009 Janet Reid
