Not You
The face on the silver screen
may set a few heartbeats in a whirl;
may have a killer smile
and those eyes
might look right through
to the soul
with a twinkle
that lights up the night
But he’s not you.
The voice on the radio,
singing soft and low,
might melt a heart or two
with words of love
in that velvety tone
that sends shivers down
many a spine
and elicits longing sighs
But he’s just not you.
The guy who
crossed my path today
might have spoken with such charm
that could wrap any woman
in a fantasy
of candlelight and wine
and a soft fireside glow
But he’s definitely not you.
And the wispy summer breeze
that rustled through my hair
and softly brushed my cheek
with tender kisses
leaving an aching
in my heart
for the touch of you —
Honey, that wasn’t you either
But nothing but the wind
can even come close
to you.
