Nearer Than The Stars
I lay in slumber gazing at the distant stars
reaching my hand t’ward where they are
and in the darkness there I smile
at the twinkling gems that are so far
I ponder their existence for a while
and think of just how many miles
their light must travel here to me
and again it brings a lazy smile
They gladly share their light with me
shining like diamonds for all to see
high above in the midnight dark,
with a beauty as vast as any can be
They seem as tiny as a flickering spark
yet clear as the song of a meadowlark;
they waver not in their nightly display,
gems of the sky to enliven the dark
It soothes my quivering heart as I lay
to see them sparkle at the end of each day
for if my heart feels their magic from afar
then your love is never too far away.
