Letting Go
They stood in time suspended
His train about to leave
Reluctantly she loosened her embrace
Her fingers slowly slipped from his
The threads of their connection
Stretched between them, tip to tip,
As he began to ease away.
She ran along the platform
Palpations in her heart
Savouring the taste of every kiss
Whispering I Love You
As the whistle blew and time ran out
And with a poof he disappeared.
And as she drifted into sleep that night
She held his promise to her breast
In the lingering of his last words
I’ll be back when the war is over
And she smiled, waiting for
Tomorrow
