Jazz

You slipped through my fingers
Just as the shadow poised
To slide around the moon;
I tried so hard to keep you there
But I knew, the moment would come
When empty would define me
As clearly as your hands once had

You delayed, a few moments more,
To rest peacefully within my gaze
And like a kite on a day without wind,
You returned for one last whisper,
One last kiss … almost too late
As I perched on the brink
Between your world and mine

You walked away, as did I,
And between us, there stretched a knot
Tied with the strongest strings,
Left where kisses spanned the barrier
Between yesterday and tomorrow
And it will still be there
Long after the winds change
