If You
I would kneel at your feet
if it were your desire,
but I am no sheep
and I would not be kept down for long;
my fingers would lead me
in trails along your skin,
seeking sustenance for the ache
that drives them;
their need to touch
a fire burning within them
I would lie in silence against your back
if you needed to sleep,
but the words locked
within my throat
would soon break free
to spill across your shoulders
and curl like a flickering tongue
around your ears,
as powerless to resist
one last whisper in the dark
as the tides to resist the moon
I would stop Loving you
if you said I must,
but to do it
I would need to lose my mind,
forget my name,
quell the beating of my heart,
and relinquish my soul
to the winds
that blow relentless
over parched deserts
And I would wait for you
in the ether
between this life and the next
whether you asked it of me or not
because there is no me
without you
