I Do

I don’t know how to split an atom;
how to create a chain reaction
of scattered neutrons
leaving the remaining element
unrecognizable as it's old self,
a brand new entity —
a rebirth of sorts

But I can relate!

I don’t know how to stop a tornado;
how to keep my feet on the ground
in the eye of the storm
if my back is turned when it lands
and it spins me around
upside down
and takes my breath away

Some things are unstoppable

I don’t know how to catch the wind in my hands;
how to hold it with enough strength
to stop it from getting away
yet gentle enough not to crush it,
when it cannot be seen
and cannot be touched —
though it can be felt

Love is like that

And I don’t know how to Love you
any less than I do
with any more than I am,
for any shorter than forever,
any better than I can,
for any other reason than
You are, I am —

And I do
