Hounds of Zeus

Clouds hang thick
like heavy wool blankets
draped across the sky
casting shades of grey
over the promise of a day;

The Harpyiae hide in the wings
silently pacing,
memorizing their lines
and awaiting their cue —
the antebellum
to full fledged fury,
building against the predestination
of scathing reviews.

The theatre echoes,
vacant and dark, but for the light
piercing the dust at center stage
where I wait on my knees
my own breath loud in my ears,
whispering a prayer
to keep the hounds of Zeus at bay

(HARPYIAE (Harpyiai) Daemones of whirlwinds and storm gusts.
They were known as the hounds of Zeus.)
