~*~

Old is in the number of candles,
some perceive it to be wrinkles and grey hair,
and it’s counted by how many times the moon
plays hide and seek behind its shadow every month.

We see it in the moss on giant Redwoods
that grows thicker with the passing of each year,
and the daily shifting sands of the Sahara
remind us that things don’t remain the same.

And even though the coastline’s always changing,
carved by the tireless sculpting of the sea,
my Love is like the water,
not the rocks

Because our time together can’t be measured
in minutes, hours, or days — it just is —
like the thunderous Niagara and the mighty Everest,
my Love for you can never grow old.

Our time is just, and right,
as much as breathing
or the blood pounding through our hearts.
It’s what brings me to you.

Growing old with you is all I could ever hope for
Time —
growing old
with you —
is the essence of my life
