Etched
In her darkness she found a ray of light
and sat awestruck at the pure beauty of it.
Cupping her hands she watched
as it danced across her fingers
and felt the warmth as it began to glow.
She planted it, watering it with tears
and serenading it with the laughter
she thought she’d lost forever.
And it grew like a seed,
blooming into a radiant flame
to rival all the suns and moons and stars
that had ever burned.
Waking, he saw her among the flames
and when he looked at her his heart melted
like it never had before,
and he wrapped her within the flood
to hold her in forever.
And now she etches poetry
on the walls of his heart,
and he doesn’t mind the hurt,
for it is hers.
