Did We Dance?
Did you see me —
a whisper in the dark
behind the curtains
where the music hung like tinsel
and the laughter rang like bells
against the evening breeze?
Did you catch a fleeting movement
from the corner of your eye
and turn to find me there,
in the satin shades of night
where only you could see
the subtle hues of me?
And did we dance —
beneath the harvest moon,
where lovers shared their vows
amidst the gossamer and wine
and the hum of conversation gently rippled
with promises and memories alike
Was I there with you
when the last star of the night
began to shine on long farewells,
and when at last you slipped your hand
into your pocket,
was it softly held in mine?
