I Could

I could walk a thousand miles
in a summer rain,
ride wild horses across plains
with mountains as their frame,
hop a passing train
as it weaves past the river
singing it's lonesome, haunting song
to see the world

I could stand at the top
of the tallest tower
and spread my arms like wings
to feel the wind,
fly through the sky
beneath parachute strings
dance barefoot in fields of clover
turning circles
until I fell on my back
breathless and dizzy,

I could lay in the surf
at the edge of the sea,
trace dot to dot in the stars
with my finger,
close my eyes to the chorus
of crickets and loons
on the stillest of nights
when the slightest breath
echoes for miles.

I could ...
but I'd rather stay,
feel my heart race
at the slightest touch
of your lips,
and know the tranquility
that is
to be wrapped
in your
arms
