City Lights and Dreamers’ Nights
Night lives in vibrant heartbeats
of flashing lights,
footfall and laughter,
beneath a towering skyline
in this place that never sleeps,
and yet the touch of a hand
lifts my feet off the ground.
The distant echo of a horseman
riding through the woodland
mingles with the breath of cool night air,
plucked from strings in the key of A and D
and planted within my memories
wrapped in 14 karat gold
among the beautiful,
the restless, and the shadows
that let me hold you for a while.
You’re never too close
and I’ll never stop waiting for you
Bright lights behind me,
this day tested and won,
rode the rails like a painter
passing through the underground,
and you could read my mind
in my eyes.
Serenaded long past sundown
beneath a sky that looks like rain,
seeds of Love softly slip into my sleep
to the whispers of sighs from the morning
in an encore that will dance
the whole night long
in my mind
as I lay dreaming of belonging,
in the circle of your heart
For you’re never too close
and I’ll never stop waiting for you
