Changed

There is a rumbling from the distance
that echoes through the depths
of my heart.

I feel it
rushing through my veins
like the beat of a thousand hooves
upon the hard packed earth,
breaking my resistance into dust
that rises from the thirst,
to leave its softened touch
upon my soul.

It rides in
on a cold November wind
and turns it warm against my skin
like the tender kiss
of a summer’s day
that melts away the ice
and leaves me longing
for more.

And it envelopes me,
and I shall never be the same
again.
