Blue

Heartbeats trumpet
in wild abandon
chasing butterflies like children
in fields of yellow-gold,
anticipating steely shades
of blue —

A blue that stalls the earth
upon its axis
and trickles time
through a pin-hole in slow motion
while spiralling in circles
round the Maypole
at breakneck speed —

Blue that carries peace
in grand proportions,
wrapping calm
around an anxious soul
in a mere blink,
and stills the rampant heart
within the lifespan of a breath
that pauses silent
on waiting lips.
