Awaiting Thee, My Love

I sit in wistful silence at the dawn
with eyes fixed at the window in despair
as in my heart I tightly clutch upon
a wish for you, dear lover, sheltered there.

It’s been too long my darling since I’ve heard
the sweetness of your voice caress my ears,
and longing, here I sit, awaiting word
to know that you are safe, and ease my fears.

My memories are garnished with your smiles;
my heart is overflowing with my love
for you, although between us there are miles
of land beneath your feet and sky above.

And so, I sit and pray God speed your feet
back to my heart, so I may be complete.
