Angel Tears
The winds, having blown southward,
flowing freely beneath feathered wings
found themselves enthralled,
and on this day proclaimed
in Venus’s name;
this night that began and ended
with the ringing of bells,
there lay an angel
unveiled in the timeless gaze
of the One who defined her,
caressed
by the tips of his fingers
as he released her
from her confinement
and bathed her in his kisses
while she sang to him
in the softest of voices.
As the ringing of bells
heralded the closing
of the gates of heaven
on this night devoid of sleep
that left her looking from the outside in,
the winds blew on
beneath the waning moon
and carried him away from her
until he became but a memory once again,
swaddled in her heart
where she wrapped him
in unfulfillable hope
As the last frayed threads
gave way
there came a flood of angel tears,
enough to fill a river
that flowed between them,
and she stood
on the northern shore
with outstretched heart,
wishing to reach the other side
but though she could feel it
she could not touch it
and a curtain of loneliness draped
her in its darkness
But his voice soothed her
and she wrapped herself in it
letting it lull her to sleep,
weaving it into her feathers
to carry it with her
when the winds lifted her wings
once again.
