... and Counting

Seems my life is spent counting.
Counting the hours between the last goodbye
And the next hello;
The days between the last kiss
And the next embrace;
Then counting the minutes
Until you will fade from view
Once again

Counting the poems scribed
From my heart to yours;
The number of lines it takes
To bleed my soul;
The number of times I’ve laid my Love
Across the page
Only to feel the need to say it
Once again

Counting the years since time began
To be counted in terms of ‘us’;
The seconds it took to form
An everlasting bond;
The times spent in stop-time,
Those timeless times,
Until the world started turning
Once again

Counting days and nights,
Explosions and reverberations,
Miles and memories,
Songs, singers, and men;
Remembering where we were at last count,
Losing count,
And thinking about counting
Once again
