Twilight Hues

The cool hues of twilight
wrap around the house
as a soft rain-kissed breeze
starts to play
in the branches of the leafless trees
outside my window.

It skips across the pond
in silent ripples,
curls around the lily pads
and hides behind the rushes
at the shore,
then buries itself deep
in autumn grasses.

The scent it carries through
my open window
brings nostalgic whiffs
of ageless memories
to mingle with the fireside glow
softly painted on the walls.

The sounds of branches tapping
and crickets in the evening air,
blend with the hypnotic crackling
from the fireplace
in a soothing serenade
that takes me to another place and time,
and brings a sigh.
