The Path

One foot goes in front of the other
That’s how it’s done.

Remind me again
That the sun will rise in the morning
Just as it does every morning.

Tell me Spring follows Winter
Birds will sing,
Flowers will bloom
And your smile will light my day

Help me to stand straight
As the atmosphere slings an extra helping
Of gravity my direction
Weighing me down
Like Atlas.

The sights here are familiar to you,
You’ve walked this path,
You know the valleys
And the turns;
To me, they are foreign,
Daunting,
And I lose my way
In the dark

Take my hand
As I make my list
Then help me cross it off

One

Day

At a

Time

One foot
In front of the other

That’s how it’s done.
