I have fought in many battles
and served my master well,
felt the blood of enemies
upon me as they fell.
I have braved treacherous weather;
many a death defying ride,
but remained a loyal servant,
always at my master’s side.
In the face of mortal danger
I have never known retreat
but surged ahead undaunted
to my enemy’s defeat.
With the strength of tempered steel
and the courage of my line
I have been held high and proud
to declare victory divine.
But not a battle nor a victory
could have helped me to prepare
for the gentle handed touch
of the royal maiden fair!
When she laid her hand upon me
Before the crowd that gathered ‘round
it was my finest hour,
and not a person made a sound!
Guided by her gentle hand
before the regal throne,
I bestowed unto my master
the greatest honour I have known.
I heard her words so clearly
as he knelt before the crowd
“I declare you now a Knight.”
And this sword did shine so proud!
