For Stephanie
The tree that always grew, that shaded when the sun was hot and reached its arms to comfort the children that played around its sturdy trunk, looks different now. The leaves have crossed from green, to gold, to brown and withered in the cold. They fall haphazardly, unsure of where to land and how to fall. The change has come from within the tree, not from lack of water or hope, or care from those encircling its trunk and tending the orchard. Though the winds of winter will blow harsh through bare branches, spring will come and the sun will shine on the young earth. A new tree will grow, where only a sapling stood before. With love and gentle care it will flourish in the sun, and it will be Crowned in Victory. october 2003
