Sea Breeze Kisses

She sits, quietly, on a cool summer eve,
feels the sea breeze kiss her face
and closes her eyes with a sigh.

Above, the sky floats lazily through the day
while birds drift effortless on the wind
with an occasional haunting call.

That same wind shuffles seaside grasses
and plays aimlessly in the sand
then settles in the dunes to take a rest

Beside the tiny wooden boat upon the shore
that rests knee deep in memories
and hasn’t seen the crystal water in years.

From where she sits on the verandah
she can clearly see the water
as it curls gently on the sand and then retreats

And as she feels the sea breeze kisses
they remind her of a love from long ago
that she keeps wrapped in soft what-might-have-been’s.
