Reunited
I ran my fingers over a name unseen
Lay my palms on flat stone
And felt its energy.
Words without voices
Thoughts without substance
Knowledge without reason
It's almost time
And I want to make sure he's ready
Because I know he wasn't ready
When I left
And I waited in the background
Hoping you were ready
~*~
The knocking was loud inside my head
Startling me from my half sleep.
There stood a man
In a long black overcoat and fedora,
A light in his eyes
And freedom in his smile.
He kissed my cheek and said
I just stopped by to say hello
On my way to goodbye
And as he turned away with a wave
I got the feeling
He had come to say Thank you
But I wasn't sure what for.
Behind him in the distance
A fair-haired woman waited,
Her hand reaching out to him
And I watched
As he walked toward her
The briskness of youth in his step
And not a trace
Of a limp.
