Prairie Sunset


Apricot skies mix with tangerine clouds
in a magical swirl of colour,
spread out as far as the eye can see, 

As the artist sinks slowly 
into the haze on the western horizon,
a shimmering dot of liquid gold.

Beneath this work of art 
the ground is laid out like a carpet;
a velvet disk of mingled greens,

with dots of golden orange and brown,
like tiny drops of spattered paint
from the masterpiece overhead.
