The Moon and I

The moon winks at me
from behind a curtain of clouds
hanging in a midnight sky
that waves in the cool spring breeze.

The stars have refused to come out and play
so he watches the twinkling
of window lights with a tinge of envy
and the whisper of his sigh
brushes softly across my heart.

I feel his loneliness
entangled with my own
as he watches me —
so close, and yet so far.

We’re not so different,
the moon and I.
