Sister Moon

She sits gracefully, in her throne,
unassuming and humble
smiling in the background
as her sister rules the day.

But when night comes, she reigns,
glowing against curtains of deep indigo,
surrounded by flickering candlelight
and fireflies blinking in the night.

Her face glows like silver
and at times her hair blows in the wind
like a gossamer halo ‘round her head,
her beauty shimmering bright in the night.

She has mesmerized many a wayward traveler,
pulled the strings of endless hearts,
and guided ships lost on the sea
holding forth her lamp to light the way.

She coyly takes her leave
moving steadily through time,
to return again in renewed brilliance,
the awe of all who behold her in the dark.
