Fog
This early morning
A fog hangs thick
Where time is caught in the flux
Between a steady rain
And the return of summer's heat.
Not long ago
My heart skipped several beats
While trying not to trip
Over unfounded notions
Discarded,
Washed away in brine
As my unbitten tongue ran wild,
A child of groundless fears
That hung as thick as fog
In the middle of the night
When monsters once thought hidden
Underneath the bed
Once again raised their ugly heads
Pointing fingers
And casting doubts
At me.
And the rain fell,
In the flux between a night
Where the world looked upside down
Like a Salvador Dali painting
Of my mind,
And the return of day
When the fog cleared
To reveal the sun
Where it had always been.
And words written in the sand
Were blown away
Leaving only those carved in the rock
On which you placed my feet
When you brought me
Back to earth
One
Word
At a time
