Flamenco Dancer

The sun has set
leaving a heavy blanket of heat
wrapped around bare shoulders,
so thick its scent is everywhere.

In the streets, where cobbles set the scene;
where windows thrown open wide
let the evening heat mix with the thick air inside,
and let the music filter out.

In the dimly lit interior,
where a string guitar plays a sultry tune
and the crowd sits mesmerized,
the heat just serves to set the mood.

And in the center of it all,
with eyes closed, she dances —

Dressed in red the shade of cherry lips,
with undulating frills beneath her shapely hips
that ride upon the music to perfection
and hypnotize the audience.

With arms that weave like snakes
beneath the charmer’s flute
and feet that tap a rhythmic drum-beat
she lets the music fill her soul.

And all the people fade away,
as she tosses back her head
— and dances.
