Through The Eyes of a Child

I’ve been waiting, anticipating
the best day of the year.
Our Christmas tree’s taller than me!
Soon Santa will be here!

I just can’t wait, gonna stay up late,
just like I’m all grown up!
A crayon note tonight I wrote,
then poured milk in a cup.

There’s cookies too and sugar cubes
to help the reindeer fly
I peer outside with eyes so wide,
up at the Christmas sky

I’m so excited, I’ll be delighted
to see what toys I get!
I just can’t sleep, my bed can’t keep
me down, oh no not yet.

But wait, it’s here! Night disappeared
How did I ever sleep?
Out of my bed, no sleepy head
today, downstairs I leap!

I can’t believe the gifts I see
all piled up on the floor
for me and my little brother Ty
and many, many more!

With pretty bows, green red and gold,
can’t wait to rip the paper off
and see what toys for girls and boys
that Santa Claus has brought!

And then we’ll eat, a turkey feast
to last all afternoon
with my Gran, and my Aunt Ann,
Grandpa and Cousin June.

Oh Christmas is, yes Christmas is,
the best day of the year!
