Day's End

The sun lays its head on the horizon
bleeding the last brushstrokes
of a lingering day
into the water below
reluctant to leave
before the end of the show.

A soft evening breeze,
dancing playfully in the wings,
weaves its fingers through my hair,
whispering sweet nothings
in my ear
with promises of midnight dreams
and magic carpet rides.

And as the night
wraps its arms around me
the half moon sings
a silent lullaby
and the day closes its eyes
with a sigh.
