* Bottled Muse *
I found this new thing on the shelf
it’s better than a Christmas elf
to write what you would like to do
much better than your own work, too!
So, thought I’d test it right away
and write some poetry today.
I flipped the cap and took a swill
prepared to write at muse’s will
And when I took a drink I knew
immediately that it was true
for right away I grabbed my pen;
began to write with fervoured yen.
I couldn’t stop, the words flew out
my pen began to fly about,
wrote pages...pages...pages.....more!
soon pages floated out the door!
My eyes could not believe this sight
and every line was done just right.
Just right I say, with not a flaw
I sat and stared with growing awe!
But then I saw something was wrong;
my head shook like a big ol’ gong.
This wasn’t what I’d planned at all!
I groaned and leaned against the wall.
Oh how could this happen to me?
I’d made a big mistake you see —
instead of bottled Shakespeare muse,
alas, I’d picked up Dr. Seuss!
