Salvador Dali ~ Galatea Of The Spheres
Barefoot in The Rain
In days gone by
She would wander through the woods
And lie in a tiny patch of grass dotted
With wild violets
Listening to the wind in the trees
And let the sun paint kaleidoscope pictures
On her body
As it played hide and seek
Behind animated branches
She would run barefoot down country roads
Slipping treasures in her pocket;
And toss pebbles
Just to hear the sound they made
When they hit the water
And see the ripples spread
Like her dreams,
Venturing into the unknown.
Heaven was the secret place
Where marigolds gathered at the edge of a stream
In the shadow of tall trees
And filled the air with cool peace;
It was the scent of lilacs mixed with rain
Drifting on the breeze,
And the playful twists and turns of the wind
As it kissed her cheeks
Then moved on, stirring tall grasses
On its way out into the world.
She followed that wind
Until it circled ‘round her
Pressing at her back in the dark
And she lost herself in the shadows, bit by bit,
Until she tripped over the pieces tossed off
Like breadcrumbs for the crows,
And the air whistled through her
Like an echo in an empty shell
And while she’d always hoped she’d be a Vermeer
The image in the looking glass
Became more and more a Dali
Every day.
And when she thought the last of her was lost
Someone whispered in her ear
You’re still the girl you thought you were,
Throw open the shades,
Dust off the canvass,
Allow the paint to chip away
And the mirror will reflect what lies beneath the surface.
Dance for me, barefoot in the rain
Again
