Awakening

You live your life just the way that it happens 
nothing unusual and nothing truly unwelcomed 
just taking hold of what life throws your way 
tryin' your best to make it come into line 
coping with it and you think you're doin' fine. 

Then something completely unexpected comes along 
and you find you're north when you want to be south 
or you're south when you want to be north 
and the bridges you crossed so many years ago 
will no longer lead you to where you want to go. 

Things you never knew could happen to you 
make a world of difference in how you see your life 
for so long things seemed to be moving along 
taking care of themselves with no unanswerable why's 
then it all looks out of place when you open your eyes. 

Suddenly you're lonely in a life so full of people 
but the doors are all locked and the curtains are drawn 
and through the cracks you can just catch a glimpse 
of where that road could take you if you could get to it 
outside that door, if you could just get through it.
