Along The Road

The blinding sun
reveals a long road
of old and cherished dreams,
like a column of thin smoke
snatched away by the clock.

A back road, rarely traveled,
stretching through simple pleasures,
it leaves a trail of illusive blessings
and random thoughts
with stolen opportunities
lying untended.

Did I travel that path to where I am now,
not knowing where I was going
in my search for perfect peace?
Did I crawl backward through unlocked doors
in an act of faith to find new dreams
in the familiar of the old?
Did I lose myself along the way
from there to here.

My notebook in my hands
I catch a glimpse of the final entry
scribbled by my pen on the last page,
placed there for a purpose unknown

once upon a lifetime…

And I move forward once again
crossing the threshold
to the road
of self-discovery.
